FAQ

  • What are your business hours?
    Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Saturday by appointment only. We will be closed on public holidays. The studio is accessible 24/7/365 for the weekly and monthly members.
  • Where do I park at your studio?
    Free street parking is available on 6th, Mateo, and Mill street, or in a public parking lot across the building (ETO Doors).
  • How do your One-day, Week, or Month Passes work?
    Our Membership Pass is used to access our well equipped studio and all sewing tools to work on your project. One-Day Passes can be used during business hours only. Month or Week Pass members can access the studio 24/7/365 using a private entry code. Tools, equipment, and lockers are available first-come first-serve. Your Month or Week Pass will expire either 30 days or 7 days after your first day using the studio.
  • Can I bring a friend to the studio once I am a member?
    Friends or clients are welcome up to 2 hours max during business hours only. They are not allowed to use the facility, including machinery and materials. If they use the facility, there will be a charge up to $295. Please email us ahead before your friend/client shows up.
  • Do you teach how to use industry sewing machines?
    Yes, we do! We offer one-on-one instruction to focus your need. They include single, zigzag, blind-stitch, cover-stitch, and serger. Please note machine brands and models may vary (but they work in very similar way).
  • Do I have to pay extra to use the locker?
    Lockers are free for the weekly or monthly members only! Lockers are first-come first-serve. Just find an empty one and bring your own lock! Due to limited space, only one locker per member. Lockers may only be used to store fabrics, paper, and tools. No foods or drinks allowed. Once your pass is expired, you have 48 hours to clean out your locker. Otherwise, your lock will be cut and the items inside the locker will be discarded.
  • I want to be a clothing designer and start my own line. How do I get started?
    Please give us a call or email for a free consultation. That way we can give you recommendations to suit your need and budget.
  • Do you have anyone that can help me create pattern and sewing?
    Yes, we do! We have an in-house experienced and talented tailor to offer custom-made items. If you need a tutorial, it is $50 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. We recommend making reservations 48 hours in advance.
  • How do your workshops work?
    We offer different workshops to fit each individual’s goal. Please see our classes menu to see what fits you the most. No matter what workshop you take, our experienced instructor will guide you step-by-step. Our workshops are designed for all levels. We offer workshops everyday except Friday and Sunday. You can sign up in person, through our website, by email, or by phone.
  • Which workshop should I take if I am new to sewing/haven’t sewn for a while?
    Our Basic Home Sewing Workshop is perfect for you! The workshop introduces sewing machine parts, winding a bobbin, threading the machine, and simple construction techniques that will build a strong foundation for you. You can always take additional workshops whenever you are ready to learn new skills.
  • What is your workshop’s cancellation policy?
    You can cancel or reschedule 24 hours in advance of the workshop. A $25 fee will be charged if you cancel or reschedule within 24 hours before the workshop. There is no credit or refund for a missed workshop after the scheduled hours.
  • What if I am late to a workshop?
    Instructors will only be present during the workshop’s hours to offer instruction or help with your project. If you are late, we won’t be able to make up the time, so please be prompt.
  • What if I miss one series of a 5-series workshop?
    Multi-series workshops are designed to learn at your own pace. You pick your own workshop day. If you are unable to make it, simply reschedule for free within 24 hours before the workshop. A $25 fee will be charged if cancel or reschedule within 24 hours before the workshop. There is no credit or refund for a missed workshop after the scheduled hours.
  • Do you offer any workshops to kids?
    Of course, we love kids! Our workshops have no age limits — all  kids are welcome to join. Although we recommend children at least age 7 for the best results. We find the personal workshops suit kids best.  
  • Do I have to bring my own sewing machine or can I use yours?
    own machine and practice more at home. Practice makes perfect! If you don’t have a machine, you are more than welcome to use the studio's machine without any charge.
  • What do I need to bring to workshop?
    We have variety of sewing tools available to use in our studio, including threads in assorted color. If you have specific need in tools and materials then you may bring your own. For the 5 Session Sewing Workshop, we provide basic fabrics. In other workshops, you may need to bring your own fabrics.
  • How long does it take to be really good at sewing?
    Sewing is a skill to master by practice. The more you practice, the quicker you’ll advance. If you stick with it, you’ll be whipping up your own garments in no time!
  • Do you sell sewing machines? What kind of sewing machine do you recommend?
    We don’t sell sewing machines at our studio. We recommend you come to our studio to try the different types of machines we have and find out which works best for you and your needs.
  • Do you sell sewing supplies at your studio?
    We provide most of the basic tools you need to sew in our studio, so you don’t have to buy. We may sell limited sewing supplies for your sewing need.
  • Do you sell fabric?
    We do not sell fabric. However, we have a collaboration program with The Fabric Store. When you shop at The Fabric Store, show your receipt of purchase at Sew FYI to get 15% off when you purchase fabrics at The Fabric Store.
  • Do you offer alteration and repair services?
    Yes, we do. Our price is $25/hour and minimum is an hour.
  • How do I hear about about your news, events, or promotions?
    You can sign up for our newsletter. We send out newsletters for upcoming events, exciting new projects, and any new equipment, tools, etc.
  • Do you rent your space for private parties, events, or filming?
    We do, as long as it does not interfere with a previously scheduled classes. Please email or call us for more info.
